apples and sports

Jason was out of town for five days last week and Emmy was so glad to see him when she got up on Wednesday morning!

Emmy had a shortened practice on Saturday so we took advantage of our two free hours and went to our favorite local orchard to pick apples.

We've picked peaches here in the past and this year they have opened for apples.

This year they have pink lady apples and next year they may have fuji, my favorite.

They even offered a hayride to the apples.

Emmy had her first meet of the season on Sunday morning.  She had lots of new skills this year (cartwheel on the beam, kip on the low and high bar, and a vault over the table) and she made them all.

Vault and bars continue to be her strengths.  She tied for first on vault but took second based on all around scores.  She got second on bars and placed fourth all around.  It was a great day watching our girl do what she loves.

Right after Emmy's meet we headed to baseball.  Bryce's team won their first game but lost their second game.  This was the championship bracket of his fall league.  He was a hitting machine in these games.  He hit a stand up triple and a pair of two RBI singles.

Our team received runner-up for their bracket.

Nana bought a cover for her golf cart so we can still ride in the elements.  We put it on for her last night and took it for a test drive.

a festive week

Emmy had picture day on Wednesday.  She wasn't thrilled about wearing a dress but she looked adorable AND she let me dry and straighten her hair!

Our school had a spirit night at our favorite ice cream joint on Wednesday.  Emmy had gymnastics until 8:30 so we picked her up a treat of dinner!

Some days she'll let me pick out her outfit.  I got to choose this one from head to toe!

Bryce had picture day on Thursday.  He has forever insisted on buttoning that top button.

Friday was the last of the eighty degree days before fall really sticks around.  I soaked up every second of it.

Emmy and I made our favorite fall treats on Friday night.  YUM!

Bryce wanted to watch football with Chase today so the girls headed to Kings Dominion to check out their fall events.

We all agreed there were more people there today than we've ever seen on a summer day.  We still had a great time!

We wrapped up the evening making a haunted gingerbread house!

the fair and other fall fun

My Nanny would have been 97 years old on Wednesday.  We celebrated with frostys in her memory.

The state fair was back this year after a year off for covid so we went on Thursday.

Jason submitted two sunflowers this year.  He won first place for largest head and second place for best quality!

She almost ate the entire turkey leg by herself!

Bryce was excited to stay for the concert featuring Christian music singer Corey Asbury.

Jason was gone Saturday for a men's retreat with friends from church so the kids and I found some fun to get in to.

We had ice cream for lunch!  No one complained about that!

We went and saw the Addams Family 2 movie.

Last up for the day was a trip to the local produce stand to pick out pumpkins!

After church and baseball, I was able to enjoy a moms night out with friends from church.  We did yoga (my first time) and went out to dinner.  It's always good to go out with other moms.

Ready for another week!

boating, football and baseball oh my!

Emmy's class went on a boat field trip on the James River this week.

Jason came across some tickets to the Virginia Tech game so we took a road trip to Blacksburg on Saturday.

We enjoyed tailgating with friends before the game.

The kids enjoyed it too!

We've taken the kids to the spring game before, but this was their first real game at Lane Stadium!

My best girl on National Daughter Day!  Go Hokies!

Bryce and Charlie connected last year at school which allowed us to reconnect to Charlie's parents.  We went to high school with his dad so it's been fun getting together with the boys and our families.

Such a great day for this kiddo!

Bryce had two games today and his team won both!  It was a beautiful day for baseball.

Fall is here and we're here for it!  We definitely did all the fall things this weekend!

back to school

We had a low key Labor Day on Monday.  The kids went to the pool with MeMa and PaPa and the cousins and then we cooked out with our neighbors.

We typically start school on Tuesday after Labor Day but our county now does a staggered start because of covid changes so we didn't start until Wednesday.  So we lived up our last day of summer.  We went to the pool with Nana and then went to lunch and dessert.

Jason's sister took the kids to Vampire Penguin for fancy shaved snow so they wanted to go back.

Everyone was up much earlier than usual on Wednesday for the first day of school.

4th and 7th graders this year.

Aren't they cute?!?

After I got both kids to school I met up with some girlfriends for brunch!

Emmy and her besties are in class together again this year!

Bryce wanted to go to the Nascar race since it was in Richmond this weekend.  Jason's not much of a race fan, but he obliged and took the boys!

Bryce had baseball games after church today.  His team went 1-1.

This week will be our first full week of school with sports every night!  I'm sure we'll be ready for Friday night!
