corona quarantine week 2

Week 2 of homeschooling and quarantine seemed more routine than last week so that's good!

When Emmy left school she was studying weather and the water cycle.  I found a themed fluency poem for her to practice this week!

The Governor announced on Monday that school would be closed for the remainder of the academic year.  It was a hard pill to swallow for teachers, kids and parents.  Chocolate helped me through the emotional event.

Bryce is having fun staying in touch and connecting with his friends via facetime and messenger kids.

His teacher scheduled a zoom meet up on Tuesday and it was the highlight of his week.

I'm trying to keep the kids reading and writing as well as doing math.  Emmy wrote her own Pete the Cat book this week and then sent a video of herself reading it to her teacher.

Bryce had won a free kids meal to Buffalo Wild Wings for a school contest so he cashed in on it this week.  He and Jason had a car picnic since they had to pick it up curbside.

Jason's family owns a bakery.  We're all doing what we can right now to support local businesses so of course we hit up the bakery for donuts for breakfast this week.

Emmy was excited to have a zoom meet up with her teacher and class on Friday.

I'll continue to say it, but the memes are getting me through.  I loved this one!

I loved this one so much, I acted on it.  Look at my new teacher appreciation gift I got this week, ha!

This morning we watched church live from our house.  It was fun!

The weather was beautiful today so we had to get out of the house and enjoy the day.

We hiked around Three Lakes Park and the boys fished a little.

We went to Bruster's for a cold snack afterwards.

It was almost ninety degrees today so we broke out the water slide for the first time this year.

Another meme that made me laugh that I've also been acting on, ha!

Case in point!  Happy hour is my favorite time of day!

The weekends do really feel like weekends now that we're in a routine and boy do I look forward to them.  I'm used to having Fridays off with a little down time to myself to get things done or just relax.  That's not the case when I'm homeschooling two different grades five days a week so I'm really enjoying my weekends!

the weekend

Friday was another beautiful day so Bryce did his daily reading outside.

For writing on Friday Bryce wrote a letter to one of his teachers and then we rode bikes to the post office to mail it.

The kids left at noon for a weekend long sleepover at MeMa and PaPa's.  Maybe the last one until the quarantine is over.

Jason and I had booked a spring break trip to Mexico for just the two of us, but we finally had to make the decision to cancel it on Saturday.  I tried to pretend I was in Mexico since it felt like a summer day!

We enjoyed dinner with a little Mexican flare including the best jalapeƱo Chicken salad.

I admit that I'll be one who gains 20 pounds while quarantined.  I can't stop eating.  Soon enough shopping will be even more limited and maybe I won't have access to Easter candy!

There's been lots of reading and wine too!

I've said it before, but the memes are helping me stay sane.

Bryce has mastered the Rubik's cube in his time away from school and sports.

Emmy's Sunday school teacher sent her a sweet note in the mail with a fun scavenger hunt so we did it on Sunday once they got home from their sleepover weekend.

She had fun hunting for things around the house and she even willingly put it all away!  Now we're gearing up for week two of homeschooling!

field trip

We finished our homeschool work early today and took a field trip because it was a beautiful day.

We took a road trip to Westmoreland State Park on the Potomac.

The air was warm, but the water was cold.  It made hunting for sharks teeth a little difficult.

The kids took a little break to watch the live sloth viewing from the Cincinnati Zoo.

I though Jason looked like Where's Waldo with his pack of goods.  He willingly carried it on the half mile hike too and from the beach.

Love this guy!

I'm usually the finder of sharks teeth, but it was too cold for me to sift through the water.  Jason took his sand raking tool he uses to find sand fleas and he found three!

We hit a favorite burger joint on the way home.  We ate outside due to the 10 person rule inside establishments.  We didn't complain because it was a beautiful day.

It will be nice when spring is here to stay because the cold and dreary days are making it hard to be stuck at home and inside all day.

coronavirus post #1

We got the news on Thursday that our schools would be closed on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the coronavirus.  Jason and I went grocery shopping on Friday to stock up on food for the coming week.  Neither of us are beer drinkers and I've never even had a Corona but we felt as though we needed to buy some considering the circumstances.  Friday was a beautiful day which made it seem weird that we were on the verge of such uncertainty.

Fresh air is good medicine so the girls went on a golf cart ride after school on Friday.

This sign hangs in our downstairs bathroom.  Pretty good words to live by right now.

We're getting good a social distancing.

The memes have helped me keep some lightness to the situation.  As a prosecco lover, this one was great.  It's not champagne unless it's from the Champagne region of France.

We started homeschooling on Monday.  Emmy is a great student.

This one, not so much.

Tuesday he was a little more agreeable as the reality sets in.

Still the most willing to work!

This one got me good.  I'm a fan of carrying the one, but I got out of the classroom before we stopped teaching it that way!

Who comes up with this stuff?

Hilarious!

Today we fell into a better routine with the school work and we got out and exercised too.  The kids would have had running club today at school so we went over the track and ran a mile and then came home and taught them the game of four square!

We are out of school for two more weeks (academically) and then another for spring break.  That's four weeks for now.  Who knows how long it will last.
