highs and lows

We were out of school on Friday for the end of the semester and Bryce got to go snowboarding with a friend.  This is his third time trying it and he has gotten the hang of it and really likes it.

We've had very little snow this year, but thankfully they've been able to make a little snow and keep it frozen in the higher elevations of the mountains.

The past few months have been tough on our family.  Jason's dad went from having pain in his knee, to needing a knee replacement revision to finding out he actually had bone cancer.  Things quickly spiraled out of control from there.  Jasons's dad fell and needed a little more surgery than a knee replacement.  Once the surgery healed, he learned the cancer had spread in his bone and he needed to amputate the leg.  He did well with those changes for a while, but learned the cancer had spread to his lungs and it began to compromise his breathing.  He was able to treat it with oxygen for a short time before the cancer caused excessive fluid buildup on his lungs.  His health unfortunately deteriorated quickly from there and we sadly lost our beloved PaPa in the early hours of Sunday, January 29.

The hospital he was in did not allow kids, but we were able to wheel him out of his room and unit into a common hallway area and have one last special visit with him on Saturday before he left us for Jesus.  He died just 12 hours after this picture.

While our hearts are broken and we will miss him terribly, we are so fortunate to have so many great memories of our time with him and will always know his love for us.

sweet victory

Bryce's middle school wrestling season came to an end this Thursday.  Due to covid, there were no sports in sixth grade, so he didn't pick up the sport until seventh grade.  He was a starter last year, but missed a few matches while being quarantined.  He was excited to get back out there this year, but an unfortunate broken arm at the beginning of the season put him out for the first half of the season.  Once healed, he was able to get compete in four matches.  His last match was victorious!  He won his match with his first pin!

8th graders were recognized before the final game.  Next year will definitely be a rebuilding year because the majority of the team were eighth graders.

It's crazy how quickly three years of middle school have gone by.

We're super proud of him for trying something new and working hard for a win!

Emmy got contacts this week and lost a tooth on the same day.  Ironically, she lost a tooth the day she got her glasses last year!

The Monster Jam tradition continues!  I'm not sure how many shows the boys have attended through the years, but they still enjoy going!

all the sports

My favorite wrestler!

Bryce got his first!  He wasn't able to pin his opponent, but they went three rounds, and he won by points!  Jason's cousin was the referee so that was fun!

Bryce's girlfriend came to watch his match.  She has the same feelings toward wrestling as I do, but at least we still support him, ha!

Bryce and his friend Hunter both won their matches!

Emmy had an out of town meet in Christiansburg this weekend.

She got her highest bar score of the season (with an amazing routine) and placed 3rd on the bars!

Her team placed first in the meet!

We've never been to this meet, but the gymnasts look forward to it because they really play up the Rockstar theme!

Some of the girls were able to go out to lunch afterward to celebrate their win and a birthday!

These two keep us busy with sports, but we love it and them!

new year new week

Bryce got his cast off on Tuesday and was cleared to wrestle!

I took Emmy to a high school gymnastics meet since it fell on a no practice night for her!

Bryce was a starter in his weight class at the first match back from winter break and from a broken arm.

He looked strong out there and put up a good fight, but later learned that he was up against the number one wrestler in the state.  He was bummed to not win, but he'll get in a groove now that he's healed.

Jason and I typically get a quick date night on Mondays while both kids are at sports and most Fridays while the kids are in school.  Our schedule was off because of winter break so it had been a while since we could sneak in a date, but Jason made it happen this Friday and took me to The Jefferson for lunch!  And bonus, the Christmas decorations were still up!

We celebrated our neighbor's birthday last night and her husband fixed a yummy dinner.  This was my first time eating salmon and it was really good!  We had yummy cake too!
