march madness

March came in like a lion with a flu diagnosis for Emmy.  She started with a low grade fever on a Thursday night and it was pretty high by Friday morning.  I don't normally take the kids to the doctor right away, but it was bachelorette weekend for my girlfriend and I knew the flu was going around.  Jason got her an early appointment and a quick flu diagnosis.  She rested through the weekend and was good to go by Tuesday.

Bryce ended up getting the stomach bug the same day Emmy was diagnosed with the flu, so it was a long weekend of sickness.  Jason was a trooper and stayed with them so I could still enjoy the bachelorette weekend!  I kept the kids home on Monday to make sure they were all germ free.  By lunchtime, you could tell they were done being stuck inside for 3 days.  We ended up going to lunch and then to Barnes and Noble to cash in their free birthday treats.

Emmy loves chocolate and Bryce does not!

We stopped by the bakery one day after school to order pies for pi day and the kids needed a donut snack.

We don't frequent the bakery as often as the kids would like, but it's probably best for all of us!

Bryce's tournament season was supposed to start the first weekend of March, but endless rain canceled it.  When we finally did get out for the first game, it was still wet and SO cold.  The first day didn't go well with a loss and a tie.

It was miserable playing conditions, but it's always fun to see the team play.

We finally had a sunny and warmer weekend for sports.  Emmy had her first softball practice and is so excited to be playing with all girls this year instead of a baseball team with a mix.

Bryce had a tournament that weekend and his team went 1-1.  We even got a little sunburn at his game.  We had forgotten what the sun looked and felt like.

Bryce is growing up so fast.  I took him to get a haircut and he looked so handsome!

I'm hoping March goes out like a lamb as I'm in an outdoor wedding on Sunday and we're hoping for sun and a little warmth!

Reading Olympics

Bryce participated in Reading Olympics this year.  It's a reading competition for fourth and fifth graders.  There were 32 books this year and the goal was for each book to be read by 3 readers on the team.  I coached Bryce's team with our gifted/talented teacher.

The competition was today and the Golden Rich Readers started off strong and won their first round.

You can tell by the look on Bryce's face that not all of the questions were easy and there were some tense moments.

The team was all smiles after they won their second round.

Their team went on to win their third round as well, but when all the scores came in, his team was tied with another team for third place.  They had a tie breaker round after lunch and were able to take away third place.

The awards ceremony was at the end of the day and Bryce was acknowledged for reading all 32 books!  These students won a gift card to the book fair for their efforts!

Receiving their medals.

He set a goal to read all of the books from the beginning and he finished with time to spare.  He's looking forward to the book fair coming to school in a couple of weeks so he can spend his prize!

I had a great time coaching his team and I was so proud of how well he did!

Love my Golden Rich Reader!

fun run

The school fun run fundraiser was today!

Emmy's class was ready to run!

I just love this group of girls!

Emmy ran at 11 and Bryce ran at 1:30.  Jason was off today so we had time in between runs to go out to lunch with friends of ours whose son is in Emmy's class!

pi day

Being that Jason is an engineer and a math minor and loves numbers, it's no surprise that he likes the number pi.  Believe it or not, that's his softball number/symbol on our church softball team.  We have joined the bandwagon the past couple of years and gotten into "Pi" Day, March 14.  The math specialist at our school told me that she usually gets small pies for her kid's teachers, so I did the same this year!  William's Bakery for the win.

I found these Pi shirts at Gymboree this summer and we had to have them!

They were excited to deliver special treats!

Bryce's gifted teacher had the perfect shirt to go with the pie he brought.

A few people at school (including our math specialist on the left) were in the pi day spirit too!

bachelorette weekend

This weekend was bachelorette weekend for my friend, Katy!  I've been working on this for a while and was so excited when the weekend finally arrived.  Of course Emmy would come down with the flu Friday morning and Bryce the stomach bug Friday night.  No worries, Jason came through for us and held down the fort while the girls celebrated!

We had a big group of girls celebrating, but five us met up at the hotel where some of us would be staying Saturday night and enjoyed snacks and drinks before heading out for a night of fun.

The Wine Expo was in town and I thought it would be fun to go since we'd never been.  Katy's soon to be sister-in-law bought her this cork veil to wear around for the evening.

"The Wine Drinking Team"

It never crossed my mind to wear matching shirts, but Katy suggested it on Wednesday or Thursday night and we were all able to prime them to us by Saturday!

The next morning everyone met back up at the hotel for brunch.

I put together these cute little favor bags for the guests.

And then I insisted we all take a silly picture with the inflatable engagement ring pool coaster.

It was a fun weekend and we're looking forward to the big day!
