highs and lows

We were out of school on Friday for the end of the semester and Bryce got to go snowboarding with a friend.  This is his third time trying it and he has gotten the hang of it and really likes it.

We've had very little snow this year, but thankfully they've been able to make a little snow and keep it frozen in the higher elevations of the mountains.

The past few months have been tough on our family.  Jason's dad went from having pain in his knee, to needing a knee replacement revision to finding out he actually had bone cancer.  Things quickly spiraled out of control from there.  Jasons's dad fell and needed a little more surgery than a knee replacement.  Once the surgery healed, he learned the cancer had spread in his bone and he needed to amputate the leg.  He did well with those changes for a while, but learned the cancer had spread to his lungs and it began to compromise his breathing.  He was able to treat it with oxygen for a short time before the cancer caused excessive fluid buildup on his lungs.  His health unfortunately deteriorated quickly from there and we sadly lost our beloved PaPa in the early hours of Sunday, January 29.

The hospital he was in did not allow kids, but we were able to wheel him out of his room and unit into a common hallway area and have one last special visit with him on Saturday before he left us for Jesus.  He died just 12 hours after this picture.

While our hearts are broken and we will miss him terribly, we are so fortunate to have so many great memories of our time with him and will always know his love for us.
